In our “Participating int he Social Media Ecosystem” research project from January of 2010, we saw that only about 1/2 (56%) of the participants had a comprehensive social strategy in place – meaning, only 1/2 of the organizations had spent time assessing and researching where their community currently was, and the opportunities for on and off domain engagement.

We initiated the Online Community Culture study in October of 2008, as part of the ongoing research agenda of the Online Community Research Network. We had over 75 participants in the research, representing many sectors, including software, tech, traditional media, social media and online community, and non-profits. Another area we wanted to explore with this project was the set of key actions taken by community The intention of the study was to get a broad look at the factors that influence online community culture, and the steps community managers and strategists take in cultivating, and in some cases influencing, a community’s culture.

The Online Communities: Metrics and Reporting research study was initiated in late July of 2009, and ran until the second week of August 2009. The research project was conducted by the Online Community Research Network , and the intention of the study was to get a broad look at what online community metrics organizations are tracking, how organizations determine and report on the ongoing value of their online community initiatives, and the reporting and metrics tools that help companies assess this.
We We received approximately 175 responses.

In the course of this discussion I recounted a well-known incident on the English-language Wikipedia where an editor was banned from the encyclopedia because an administrator, who at the time specialised in uncovering “socks”, believed that this editor’s actions corresponded to the profile of a disruptive user trying to infiltrate the project. have conflicting views about the ethics of online peer project research. First, some background: In the chapter of my book Cyberchiefs on governance in the English-language Wikipedia, there is a section, as in all my case studies, which deals with conflict.

The research project was conducted by the Online Community Research Network , and was created to provide insight about customer attitudes towards online community platform and service vendors, particularly around satisfaction.
