What if Avaya and Cisco shifted slightly from talking only about communication-enabled business processes and discusses the benefits of socially-enabled business processes (via social messaging, social presence, social networking, etc)?
Ditto for SAP although the ESME project has roots in the SAP ecosystem.

The best community in action that I have seen is the SAP Developer Network (https://www.sdn.sap.com/). The average time to get an answer to a question now is something ridiculous like 15 minutes. You couldnt get that kind of service if you called the SAP help desk directly! SAP also gives out shirts, conference admissions, and other prizes for top contributors.
