At the heart of the criticism deployed against OA publishing is the claim that levying an article processing charge (APC) on authors will inevitably corrupt the age-old process of scholarly publishing, and the independent peer review system on which it is based. And with last year’s reintroduction of the Federal Research Public Access Act (FRPAA) and President Obama’s recent public consultation on requiring U.S. Richard Poynder has an interesting interview with the CEO of Open Access publisher Sciyo, Aleksandar Lazinica, where the latter states that “author pay formats” should be abandoned.

Obama launched last year a $787bn fiscal stimulus, which includes tax cuts, expansion of unemployment benefits and increased spending in education, health care, infrastructure and the energy sector; European Greece is condemned to fiscal starvation. L et’s face it, the Obama Presidential campaign was one of the most successful social media marketing efforts in the history of the internet. can count on my fingers the number of major US companies that understand new media the way the Obama campaign did. (Incidentally, Incidentally, how long do you think it will take Firefox to put “Obama” in their spell-check dictionary?) I This is really not that surprising, given the involvement of people like Chris Hughes , one of the founding fathers of Facebook, as Obama’s online organizing coordinator.
Don’t expect Obama’s experts to suggest this, however; it’s far too radical. And the chances of real intervention bringing about real change — what Obama called for but seems unable to muster — will be next to none .” Thanks to Dave Pollard for this crucial reminder: “Dana Meadows published what is probably her most famous work, Places to Intervene in a System , in 1997. In that article, she listed, in reverse order from least to most effective, the ten ways (later expanded to twelve) to bring about change in an organization, group,
There has been a lot of talk over the last year of Obama’s election as the first social media election . And it is certainly true that there is much we can all learn from how Obama used social media as a candidate during the election process. If Obama’s use of social media showed how candidates can harness it to support their own campaign, and to build their own brand, the case of the Iranian elections shows how the public can use social media to express Image by youngrobv (Rob & Ale) via Flickr But over the last couple of days we’ve seen another
We’re written before about some great examples in this space, from the well-documented role of online communities in the Obama campaign , to Oxfam’s use of social media in the UK. This is all very evident in the forums and discussions where people are sharing advice on topics from the emotional process of deployment to the roles in the Navy for those who are colour-blind , as well as sharing personal stories about their children . A busy week at FreshNetworks has meant that we’re a little later than expected  bringing you the third in our series of Online Community Examples .
The incoming Obama administration is pledging to use some innovative internet strategies to expand citizen access to government information and processes. (This A few of the things the Obama technology plan calls for (see the whole plan ), and some of the related examples and opportunities we see, are: Making Related - TechPresident's Micah Sifry reflects on Obama campaign lessons and asks This gets us at Forum One pretty jazzed - we've been evangelizing a long while about using online services to expand public access to information, enable new forms of collaboration, and build online communities.) Great example of how stimulating/promoting/funding open and participatory processes makes economic and policy sense. 8220; President Obama could not find any economists who were able to see the housing bubble for his economic team. Suppose that President Obama made $10 billion a year available for state and local governments to support various types of creative and artistic work. I’m only quoting the 3 ‘p2p’ related policy proposals out of a total of seven . For some personal details about Dean Baker, see the book information at the bottom of this entry.
Looking at the Tension in the Collaboration Process by Bill Ives September 1, 2008 at 10:09 am · Filed under Enterprise 2.0 Bruce Lewin writes the blog, Four Groups and he recently posted a long piece on The Tension in Collaboration . Does collaboration benefit from a more formal process? He started with these four questions: Should we be putting people first, before technology, in our efforts to collaborate? Can collaboration be encouraged in a replicable and systematic manner (as much as anything concerning people can be repeatable
Brandy was inspired to do a visual capture of Obama’s inaguration speech - something quite different than she normally does.  was really interested to read about her process… … I ended up scribbling down the main points I heard in pencil on a notebook. And as I scribbled notes, I realized that it was critical to quote Obamas words. For those of you interested in visual thinking and graphic recording, take a look at this! 8220; It is a commonplace to point out the ways in which the Obama Presidential campaign depended on p2p formations for much of its success. It is customary — and quite correct — to say that Obama depended on the extraordinary fundraising of millions of aggregated small donations as well as the circulation of images and excitement about his vast rallies to acquire and parlay the early momentum without which he would likely scarcely have seemed a viable candidate as compared to Clinton or Edwards according to Establishment media pundits and incumbent partisan figures and so on.
the more profound analysis by Ismael Hossein-zadeh on Obama as “ Herbert Hoover Copycat ” - general background material in my combined tag in Delicious: http://delicious.com/mbauwens/Meltdown+Obama-watch was very disappointed when I saw the grand Obama plan. The price of nominating the very people who where responsible for the deregulatory meltdown (Lawrence Summers and crew) is becoming apparent, writes Krzysztof Rybinski in Open Democracy , $2.5 trillion will be used, not for the productive economy, but to keep alive zombie banks that have been sucking
