if you ask me; and once again this week I will be putting things to the test when I travel to London to participate in the SOMESSO / Headshift Social Business Summit while I keep wondering what the network connectivity would be like, both at the event and at the hotel I’m staying. After I came back last Friday from a couple of recent business trips to both Madrid and Barcelona to speak at the Lotusphere Comes To You events, and while still recovering, slowly, from a nasty cold I caught on the plane back home, I’m starting to get ready for my next business trip; taking place next week Wednesday and heading to London for Thursday’s SOMESSO / Headshift Social Business Summit . But, hang on, before I dive further into what I will be doing at the Social Business Summit, just wanted to let folks know that I’m already on the process of putting together

Every so often there are those times when you bump into a couple of articles published by people, who you know and respect dearly for the tremendous amount of great work they have done in the space of Social Computing, that give you such an adrenaline rush, while reading through them, that you just can’t stop thinking about anything else for a little while. And if those blog posts have got to do with two of my favourite topics from all along ( People and Trust ) in that context of the Social Enterprise , you know I will surely be sharing my two cents of the conversation.

Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) is a disappointing platform for social computing in my opinion. My position for some time has been that the next release will be a tipping point for Microsoft's social computing efforts. Either Microsoft "gets it right" and delivers a forward-looking release with significant improvements that transforms SharePoint into a market-leading social computing platform, or it delivers a release that has only incremental improvements to existing Rather than list off a "top ten" list of predictions for 2009, I thought I would briefly layout some topics and areas that business and IT decision-makers should pay attention to when formulating Enterprise 2.0

Social Graph, We Need the Portable Social Network | Main | Getting More Value In Enterprise with Social Bookmarking » The Elements in the Social Software Stack When thinking through social software (also known as social computing, social media, and social web) I have been influenced by many ideas, but at the core there are two things that stick in my head: 1) Good visualization; and 2) Object-centered sociality. Getting the two to mesh, while accounting for most of the important components of social software

Perhaps, in a follow-up blog post I will talk a little bit about which social networking sites have now been become part of my recently created and ongoing " black list ". Most of you know how I have been using social software for much longer, yet things changed when I kicked off that experiment. In that brilliant article Andy comes to highlight, amongst several other very interesting Now that I have gotten off my chest that reflection on something I have been meaning to write about for a while now, I think it is time to move into the next one. design-led approach to solving a business problem is very different to the way most “social media” projects work in real life. The current state of “social media” for many businesses looks more like an episode of MacGyver than Apple’s design process. Armano proposes that the term “social media” is itself part of the problem. Many folks have been questioning the relevance and importance of social computing within the enterprise. Corporate social networking is just as essential as any other business process, knowledge sharing or collaborative tool available out there to help improve the productivity of your knowledge workers.
am one of those folks who thinks along those lines of the latter commentary, having been exposed to corporate social software tools behind the firewall as early as 2001. After the wonderful Lotusphere Comes to You 2009 events (in both Madrid & Barcelona) from last week and after taking a couple of days off to enjoy thoroughly both cities, it is time to return back home and, with that, back into my usual and regular blogging activities.

This post is fourth in a series of my Social Media Principles. The base post is 10 Social Media Principles . 4. People at the companies who are actually responsible for success are disempowered from making decisions or creating growth. Social Media has shown us that the decentralization of power and information have led to very rapid advances in productivity and a very different set of assumptions about personal empowerment. Decentralization is freedom – Decentralized power structures spur creativity, growth, and innovation. Note: Writing a short blog post on this is like writing a short blog post on why it’s hard to cure addiction.
