Last week at the InterAction Forum I had the pleasure of hearing Sam Graham-Felson , former director of blogging for the Obama Campaign talk about their strategy and success. They helped explain Obama's 10 major policy positions by breaking them into Blueprint for Change videos on each one. Admittedly, what made the Obama campaign so so successful was what many organizations don?t Lots of what Sam talked about can be translated into useful tactics for small and large organizations who are building communities of people who care about their issues. First, let me say

It’s a week after the US elections and I am still impressed by the speech given by Obama on November 5th as well as the campaign that surpassed anyone’s imagination. Obama Obama is no doubt brilliant but what I find so interesting is his use of many tools and tactics we work with in the field of Knowledge Management.
Firstly, his use of Web 2.0 - online social software In future courses I give on social softwares and their uses, I will definitely focus on how Obama used these tools to have a winning campaign.
Secondly, his use of storytelling for change

Apart from a delicious tag , I’m also starting a Obama Policy Watch page on our wiki , to link to important policy initiatives, such as his recent open and transparent government memorandum, quoted above.
See also the overview by the Open Knowledge Foundation: What Obama can do to promote openness .
This is a report on YouTube telling how the “My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government…Government should be transparent…Government should be participatory…Government should be collaborative.”

In the past, I always looked to add knowledge management to enhance existing business processes and then measure KM’s enhancement of these processes. In 15 years, I never saw a successful knowledge management system that did not do this. Gil gave a good example from a session I missed, Jascha Franklin-Hodge, Chief Technology Officer & Founding Partner of Blue State Digital who spoke about the lessons we can learn from I greatly enjoyed this years Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston.

The whole review discusses Obama’s leadership nominations in that context.
How is the Dunoon book and the Michael Commons review related to Obama’s choices and leadership practice?
Obama’s approach to leadership:

Obama is not the perfect vehicle for progressive ambitions, but that does not mean there is not a historical opportunity for social change, argues Dale Carrico , who regrets the kneejerk purist reactions of many on the left. We will need to push Obama from the left to keep him strong in the bloody fight for Unions to come (probably the definitive fight of this historical moment in the grand scheme of things), and to move him to a more universal healthcare system than the one he is offering now in the name of needed reform.
Now is the time to put pressure on the administration.
