That’s all what matters for Web Knowledge Workers nowadays don’t you think? if you ask me; and once again this week I will be putting things to the test when I travel to London to participate in the SOMESSO / Headshift Social Business Summit while I keep wondering what the network connectivity would be like, both at the event and at the hotel I’m staying. Tags: Mobile , Mobility , 2010 , Smartphones , LCTY2010 , Lotusphere , Travelling , Business Travelling , I’m sure that during the course of these first three months of the year you may have read already a few dozens of articles, blog posts, news items, etc.

After I came back last Friday from a couple of recent business trips to both Madrid and Barcelona to speak at the Lotusphere Comes To You events, and while still recovering, slowly, from a nasty cold I caught on the plane back home, I’m starting to get ready for my next business trip; taking place next week Wednesday and heading to London for Thursday’s SOMESSO / Headshift Social Business Summit . But, hang on, before I dive further into what I will be doing at the Social Business Summit, just wanted to let folks know that I’m already on the process of putting together

This afternoon I’m spending a half hour on a Skype video conversation to share a bit of how I use social media. figured it would be good to exercise my memory a bit and unearth some of the key stories that led me to to my social media use today, and perhaps surface some of my patterns. The history approach also shows that while the term “social media” was not in play when I jumped in, the social use of online media has I These roots are significant because our patterns of use, our ways of embracing or rejecting technology

I’ve been co-designing and c0-facilitating a number of workshops for the CGIAR and FAO over the past few years about knowledge sharing, and more recently, this phenomenon people call “social media.” thought I’d share a few of them on this blog. Social Media Strategy Planning & Measurement 8221; Part of this work has been to comb through resources and create some launch pads that are relevant to NGOs and non profits. I

Last week I spent half a day in a workshop on local government knowledge management. We concluded that what councils need in order to share so-called “best practice” is not more consultancy, reports and databases, but video clips, conversations, and encouragement to tell bad stories as well a good. This focus on conversations is not new in the knowledge management field … what is different is see
ng Boring waste of time? Absolutely not, because it gave me some breakthough thoughts on collaboration within and between organisations, and may well make a big

was hoping that you would provide insight into the core skills and knowledge around communities and networks that learning professionals should have?
As you know, I strongly believe that in the future all knowledge workers will need the ability to effectively participate in communities and navigate networks in order to perform their work. What’s the 5 minute and 60 minute learning piece that all knowledge workers should It is hard to let some Tony Karrer disappointment persist. After posting my 4 Meta Skills for Learning Professionals in response to Tony’s

image through ericmackonline.com This post may be a little chaotic as I'm using it to get a grip on some of my ideas about social media for organisations. Tomorrow I'm going to write with Sibrenne Wagenaar ; we are writing a booklet on social media for learning and collaboration. We start with social media for professionals (individuals), then teams, then organisations. It's the organisational chapter that needs much more thinking. I

wanted to share some of them, and find out what you use and how. Patrick Lambe and the folks at Straitsknowledge created a deck of cards to introduce people to knowledge management and knowledge sharing methods. have not used them many times yet, but we’ve used them similar to the Social Media card game (which itself is a great free resource) or as a rotating conversation starter on KS methods. I love things you can touch and play with when facilitating face to face. This is probably why I was so attracted to the “drawing on walls”

In working with knowledge sharing and learning initiatives within international non governmental organizations (NGOs), the author has observed a pattern where talented internal practitioners have struggled to spread innovations, engender learning required for successful work, and in general, been stopped from excelling.
The connection with an external practitioner then allows a sharing of ideas, and the beginning of a peer coaching or support relationship. OK, I need your help. I

This series on Skills for Learning Professionals and Knowledge Workers ( Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 ) have spiked the old hit-meeter and shown up on Tweets all week. Creating a knowledge network is important, but if we are creatures of homophily, seeking out like-minded connections , then are we really using this skill to its full advantage? As I’ve pointed out before, social technology tends to collude It is fascinating to see what strikes a cord. There have been many thoughtful and insightful comments and the other blog posts responding to Tony K’s Big Question

Next in the podcast series on social media in international development is a dear friend and colleague, Simone Staiger discussing the design, technology and facilitation of a global e-consultation. Listen as Simone talks about the technology, process and challenges of the consultation, as well as her unique addition of social media tools (Twitter and blogs) to provide a window “out to the world” on the progress of the e-consultations.
Simone is orchestrating 6 regional consultations for the Global Forum on Agricultural Research ( GFAR ) in preparation for a major meeting next year.
