Personally, I’m of the school of thought that lurking is a form of legitimate peripheral participation , that in most cases, if everyone actively participated we’d be overwhelmed, that we often and appropriately lurk offline and that lurking is not always “take and no give,” that people do in fact take what they learn one place and often use it and contribute elsewhere. For many organizations, the goal is to develop a holistic social web strategy that refines based on learning from previous years of experimentation and many experiments strewn across the social web. Participants are responsible for placing themselves in sessions that they are learning from and / or contributing to the most. An initial conversation was had about the challenges with Forum One hosted the Online Community Unconference East last Wednesday, February 10th in NYC at the Digital Sandbox. Most of the attendees were able to make it despite the snowy conditions.

I’m long-winded on the topic of new skills for knowledge workers and learning professionals, even if I don’t quite understand what a learning professional is. When Tony Karrer asks for 5 and 60 minute learnings on what new skills do learning professional need, clearly I’m falling well past the 60 minute mark. These three directly address the follow up question Tony It has become clear. Here is part 3.

Of Bodhi in Chicago (who has since passed on) who took this newbie under his wing and who gave me my online name of choconancy.
“Eminds” was where I learned that online relationships can be real, how they get real, and how they break and fail. You can try something and if it doesn’t work, learn, adjust and try again. This afternoon I’m spending a half hour on a Skype video conversation to share a bit of how I use social media. I

bell rang when I read Chris’ words harking back to EdMedia in Hawaii this June. Shared experiences lead to the kind of learning that often rocks my world. should probably write a whole post on this, but tomorrow I join up with my Future of Learning in a Networked World pals to continue the FLNW09 road trip. Tags: events Chris Lott posted a really important bit at the end of his overview of Alan Levine’s OpenEd09 presentation on Alan Levine ’s Amazing Stories of Openness . And lest I forget, don’t miss the recording of Alan’s work.

Well, earlier on this week, and thanks to a bunch of tweets from Paul Thornton , I bumped into an extended version of that same video clip, but this time around with an extended interview with Brad Anderson , former CEO and Vice Chairman of Best Buy and who retired in June 2009, and Peter Hirshberg .
The next generation of leaders would need to start learning, and rather quickly!, A couple of months back I put together a short blog post ( The Company as Wiki by Best Buy ) on how Best Buy was eventually embracing social software and how they were telling their story in an amazing YouTube video in a little bit less than five minutes.
