Build this into your process, especially at the start of an interaction when people don’t know each other and technology issues may not yet be sorted out.
People who are always on and respond quickly experience online interaction differently than those who log on less frequently. We’ve just published our latest white paper, Interaction in Advertising , which is summarised below. The paper discusses examples of campaigns that are putting interaction in advertising into practice and highlights the risks and benefits of the developing trend. Included in the paper: From ‘interactive’ to ‘interaction’ Brands are switching from paid display advertising to promoting themselves through branded online communities, virtual worlds/games and social media. The paper examines how advertising is evolving from a one-way communicative process (the advertiser telling the consumer what they should be thinking), to a more collaborative, engaging format where brand and consumer communicate with an open dialogue.

Breaking presentations down into 7-10 minute segments alternated with interactive periods to maintain engagement. Interact: Content can be compelling, but if you have people’s attention, why not focus on interaction and conversation and save the pushing of content for asynchronous. Encourage people to welcome each other and move away from a hub/spoke form of interaction. For this post, community is defined as a group of people with bounded membership who have some shared, congruent interest and interact with each other over time. The 8 Competencies of Online Interaction ( Audio , slides ) and tons on my blog .
It can include one-time or repeat interaction.
It has become clear. I’m long-winded on the topic of new skills for knowledge workers and learning professionals, even if I don’t quite understand what a learning professional is.
