Michel Bauwens asked me to summarize a discussion that started with a question, posted by Richard Douthwaite, a UK-born economist and activist who lives in Ireland. The question gave rise to an interesting discussion on the ins and outs of credit-based complementary currency and the credit commons. So it is promoting Liquidity Networks ( see brochure ) to overcome the monetary bottleneck by supplementing official Douthwaite posted on the Feasta forum, asking whether the alternative electronic payment system that is being readied for implementation in Dublin and Kilkenny, Ireland, is in danger of being taken over and captured by private interests, such as a large retail chain, once it is started.

I’ve been asked to do a number of press interviews – actually quite a lot – about the anti Allyn John Slater pages on Facebook and other online communities. don’t want to get into the alleged crimes – involving the murder of a very young girl – but rather the community reactions on Facebook, and other social media sites. guess the first point is that calls for the What happens when online communities create “hate sites” particularly on testimonial sites of those who have passed on?  Does saying “I wanna kill him” mean

The Best from the Communities and Networks Connection Community

We ( Gary Hayes from LAMP and I) structured Thursday for speakers to 50 people on their social media marketing campaigns. On Friday, I ran a one-day hands-on computer course on how to do a social media marketing campaign. started with explaining the structure of connecting to social networks and then pointed out that campaigns are just one – but crucial – feature of engaging with online communities. This is for a presentation I gave as a seminar on Thursday. Both days were run through the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) LAMP program.

Most of us know that in the typical online community, it’s not kosher to post blatant marketing materials. But when confronted by other more nuanced issues, such as how to introduce ourselves (or our company) to a community, or how to react to someone calling us names, things get a little murkier. Nowhere is that old phrase “you only get one chance to make a first impression” more relevant than when a company representative engages with This guide shares some of the basics of conducting yourself properly when engaging on behalf of an organization within the existing Social Web, with tools and communities your company has created and especially with those it hasn’t.

Here is a question that’s frequently asked: I need help getting people to use
These days it seems everyone is talking about Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn. Some are on none, and are befuddled.  “Even if I think it’s a good idea to use Social Networking for our work, which should we use? And really, what is all this and what do we have to do to be “on” these things?” Some people are on one, but not others. Should we be on all of them?

Yesterday, I began looking at the three big social networking sites, to help readers understand what the difference is between them. The reason for these posts is simple: I am not a techie, and as I began getting into the arena of social networking, I found that all the information about “how to” and “why to” was written by people who love technology. I wanted to know things like, “Is this somewhere And as often happens, they wrote all that stuff as if I already had a base level of understanding which - well - I don’t!
I've been to events where everyone is twittering, tagging and hopping around with their laptops. I've also been to events where nobody even knows what tagging is. I was asked by Partos , the branche association for development organisations in the Netherlands to think with them how social media can support their yearly event, Partos Plaza for roughly 100 participants. In most events, you will find a mix of people. The event will take place next tuesday so we don't have any evaluation data yet, but I can share our design and some first observations about the process.
