The “festival” is a nonstop series of keynotes and panel discussions during the day, and social events and meetups during the off hours (and in between sessions). Danah Boyd gave an interesting talk on the current state of online privacy, and unpacked recent events concerning Facebook privacy issues as well as the privacy issues surrounding the Google Buzz launch. Chris Messina from Google I’m in Austin for SxSWi (South by Southwest interactive) with several colleagues from Forum One and several thousand colleagues from around the world working in the digital and interactive fields.

In social media it is becoming clearer and clearer that the big thing for 2010 is location-based tools. We’ve posted before about how businesses can use Foursquare and only yesterday about Fourwhere , the Foursquare and Google Maps mashup. Of course, there is a serious downside to location-based tools (as we saw with Please Rob Me ) and people should be aware of and sensible about any information they share in social media. It is a truth universally acknowledged that everybody makes predictions at the end of a year about ‘the big thing for next year’.
