Though technology tools are increasingly common to help people find connections, from LinkedIn to Facebook, I find that even the most technology-savvy leaders rely on their own personal networks to find the best resources quickly. When the Wikipedia entry for folksonomy moved to make the statement that folksonomy is synonymous with collaborative tagging, it deeply bothered me as the term folksonomy was coined to separate tagging done in a collective manner (each individuals contribution is held separate and collected or aggregated to build a fuller understanding, as the tagging is done by and from the individual reading the media for their own retrieval and is also share out with others). Collaborative tagging does take place and there is a need for it in certain situations, but it is not folksonomy.

As an example, my newtorks on facebook and linkedin have nothing in common, links are built upon different criterias, in different contexts. Business oriented social objects can be blog posts, participation ino a wiki, the fact people are interested in the same things (same taxonomy of folksonomy on produced or read objects), the fact people exchange by email, IM etc… That wil help to emphasize a kind of intellectual or business proximity.
