Why this cow should be challenged: Many organizations are doing a poor job of evaluating the opportunity for community on their own domain, and are setting up outposts on large social sites like Facebook because it is relatively easy and (initially) inexpensive. This week: Nestle's Facebook Furore; Evan Williams' and Gaga; The Bing Thing in China; and social media in the loo. No-one could say Facebook’s trajectory hasn’t been stratospheric (well, they could, but they’d be wrong). Welcome to eModeration's round-up of all that is intriguing, alarming or odd in the world of social media, compiled by Kate Williams. However, in this article I discuss the use of Facebook for building your list. I figured it would be good to exercise my memory a bit and unearth some of the key stories that led me to to my social media use today, and perhaps surface some of my patterns.
Research released by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) in the UK suggests that people are growing increasingly tired of requests to join brand pages or install brand applications in Facebook and other social networks . Social networks are very personal spaces where users go to connect with their network of friends - to share photos, plan events, keep up with what they have been doing and to message them. While the concept of the FCC sounds admirable, and would seem to be a sign that Facebook is addressing user concerns over inappropriate content in a very democratic way, it may not end up being as effective as it sounds like it could be. And, in fact, Facebook may have set up the FCC for a totally different reason: To data-mine the opinions of the moderators themselves, as a way of tapping the moral sensitivities of its user base. Is that good news or bad? Given recent draconian moves by Facebook to redefine what user data it can share with the Internet, I'd tend to think it's
Facebook status updates tell us the emotional health of the nation and the Gross National Happiness of members. This is quite a different use of sentiment and Facebook: Every day, millions of people share how they feel with the people who matter the most in their lives through status updates on Facebook . 300 million ? 400 million?
Today’s post will address Facebook. Facebook In Facebook, in my analogy-driven mind, is like a neighborhood block party. All that is what Facebook feels like. At Facebook, you can post photos and videos and links to things you find interesting. This is the last of a three-part series on the three big social networking sites, to help readers understand what the difference is between them. These posts are intended to help you navigate the terrain of these seemingly foreign planets, and to hopefully encourage you to visit and perhaps stay for a while!
In working with knowledge sharing and learning initiatives within international non governmental organizations (NGOs), the author has observed a pattern where talented internal practitioners have struggled to spread innovations, engender learning required for successful work, and in general, been stopped from excelling. The connection with an external practitioner then allows a sharing of ideas, and the beginning of a peer coaching or support relationship. OK, I need your help. I

In other words, our workforce spans 4 generations and even more levels of organizational leadership, and everyone wants the best ideas at the company to be shared as freely as possible so that we can weather the recession.
