Although the genesis of relations of P2P production in the spheres of free software and cultural production was a bottom up process and was established through legal forms embracing universal property as the Creative Commons, for example), this was made possible because the fundamental prerequisite of the existence of distributed stable capital was already accomplished, via the use of distributed computational power and of a medium (internet) through which, at a low cost, producers could self-organize. For example, the cogeneration is more suited to dense urban areas where the installation

We've written previously about the Obama Administration's Open Government Directive . The report cites a number of examples of successful contests, including from DARPA, Energy Department, EPA, and the U.S. Among other things, the Directive has led to a proliferation of innovative " ideas sites " across the federal agencies.
Last week the White House issued a new memorandum titled " Guidance on the Use of Challenges and Prizes to Promote Open Government " (PDF) — a further step towards citizen engagement.

The second excerpt is from Ellen Brown, who has a set of concrete monetary reform proposals , that have been successfully applied by for example Argentina.
Obama launched last year a $787bn fiscal stimulus, which includes tax cuts, expansion of unemployment benefits and increased spending in education, health care, infrastructure and the energy sector; European Greece is condemned to fiscal starvation. Below is a first excerpt from a very important, crucial editorial by Costas Douzinas in the Guardian, which calls for resistance against EU/IMF imposed policies which have already a record of destroying many economies.

Barack Obama tells a story. I think it's great example of the use of narrative in public speaking - so I'm just going to make a few notes about it: It's a story based on true events, not a fable or a fiction - altho there is some dispute by other participants as to details. It's told in the first person, Obama (our narrator) is a character in the story. Shawn played a similar video to this at a conference I was at in Melbourne about a month ago. The story he tells is very well known in the US but comparatively unseen here in Australia.

Arianna Huffington:
“A series of recent meetings with members of Barack Obama’s economic team (including running into Larry Summers on my way to an appointment in the West Wing, leading to a spirited back-and-forth that made me feel like I was back at Cambridge, debating the smartest kid in the class), left me with a pair of indelible impressions:
Just as Ptolemy was convinced we live in a geocentric universe — and made the math work to “prove” his flawed theories — Obama’s senior economic team is convinced we live in a bank-centric universe,

The netsquared thinktank question is this time: ' What was the best example or lesson learned about leveraging social media from the political campaigns this year?' At first, I didn't feel like responding. have followed the campaigns of Obama and McCain filtered through the Dutch news. But it's a nice opportunity to find out more about how Obama leveraged the social I I'm a fan of Obama (like 90% of the Dutch I believe!),

As Obama raised his hand and took the oath of office around noon yesterday the new administration launched its new version of the WhiteHouse.gov web site. Hyperlinked: The post has about five links to other web pages to expand on or provide examples of what the posting covers. It includes a new " White House Blog ", and the first posting shows some smart thinking about how a government entity can use a blog. We think there is going to be an increase in interest in effective use of blogs for the government sector, so here are a few quick impressions of what is effective in this

There has been a lot of talk over the last year of Obama’s election as the first social media election . And it is certainly true that there is much we can all learn from how Obama used social media as a candidate during the election process. If Obama’s use of social media showed how candidates can harness it to support their own campaign, and to build their own brand, the case of the Iranian elections shows how the public can use social media to express Image by youngrobv (Rob & Ale) via Flickr

The incoming Obama administration is pledging to use some innovative internet strategies to expand citizen access to government information and processes. (This A few of the things the Obama technology plan calls for (see the whole plan ), and some of the related examples and opportunities we see, are:
Making For example, Vivek Kundra, the Washington, D.C. This gets us at Forum One pretty jazzed - we've been evangelizing a long while about using online services to expand public access to information, enable new forms of collaboration, and build online communities.)

Great example of how stimulating/promoting/funding open and participatory processes makes economic and policy sense. 8220; President Obama could not find any economists who were able to see the housing bubble for his economic team. Suppose that President Obama made $10 billion a year available for state and local governments to support various types of creative and artistic work. I’m only quoting the 3 ‘p2p’ related policy proposals out of a total of seven .
For some personal details about Dean Baker, see the book information at the bottom of this entry.

I watched in awe from early this morning as the world got ready for the inauguration of Barack Obama as President. And I was inspired by Obama’s speech–a mixture of the stark reality of our time and determination for a bright future. Obama is an historical president in other aspects, too. I felt joy and hope as I read my dad’s email this morning saying that he was so excited to see the moment that he had dreamed of, but thought might never come in his country.
