Like, for example, Spotify having 320,000 paying subscribers, 100 million playlists – 30% of which being complete albums – laying waste to the myth that the album as a format and concept is dead.
Johnny Lee of Microsoft – Applied Sciences talked, like Shirky, eloquently and concisely when discussing ‘new interaction paradigms’ (first prize for buzzword bingo). I wrote a week or so ago about what I wanted to get from South by South West.

Says GetJar CEO Ilja Laurs with grim satisfaction: “Mobile devices will kill the desktop.” Lots of hoo-ha about a new set of Compete figures, which showed hefty drops in traffic to all social networks last month – Twitter’s, for example, fell by around 9%. Earlier this week there were reports that Facebook was ‘considering’ installing a panic button to allow children to report suspicious interactions on the site, following a ‘frank exchange of views’ during a meeting with the Home Secretary Alan Johnson. Welcome to eModeration's round-up of all that is intriguing, alarming or odd in the world of social media, compiled by Kate Williams.

As I blogged previously , I've been at South by Southwest Interactive these past few days. For example, one hospital now tweets updates from the operating room with patient's written permission.

Ben asks the question, “Why isn’t there more great work in the interactive space?”, But it’s generated a fascinating open conversation about a big problem: what do advertising agencies need to do about digital, or interactive, or whatever it’s called? We’ve been creating web applications for almost a decade and avoided interactive advertising, banners and buttons. This post has been brewing inside of me for some time. For example, in a web meeting, toss questions both to the group and to individuals.
For example, silence may mean someone is shy, angry or their microphone doesn’t work –> each of these begs a different facilitation strategy. Build this into your process, especially at the start of an interaction when people don’t know each other and technology issues may not yet be sorted out.
Candace Whitehead, the Facilitator Support Specialist for the Florida Online Reading Professional Development project funded by the Florida DOE and housed at the University of Central Florida [link] contacted me last month inviting me to participate in a web meeting with the cohort of online facilitators working in learning and particularly around literacy issues.

People very often have strong allegiances to particular brands and may choose to always purchase, for example, a Ford or a Renault.
Each Monday we’ll be taking a particular industry and giving three short case studies of online communities, whether for marketing, customer engagement, market research or other reasons. Today we start with the automotive

Breaking presentations down into 7-10 minute segments alternated with interactive periods to maintain engagement. Interact: Content can be compelling, but if you have people’s attention, why not focus on interaction and conversation and save the pushing of content for asynchronous. Encourage people to welcome each other and move away from a hub/spoke form of interaction. Alan Levine wrote a deliciously provocative post on last month that I’ve been meaning to comment upon, Five Ways to Run a Deadly Online Seminar . When I read it, my head was bobbing in agreement
