Conducted between April and September 2009, the research was carried out by leading business schools in the United States and Europe: IESE Business School in Spain, E. The study findings indicate that the business world is at the early stages of adopting these tools and in the process of identifying key challenges, such as the need for increased governance and IT involvement, which may impact the integration and adoption of these new platforms and technologies.
For some time I've pointed out the need for the Cisco groups responsible for enterprise collaboration (including unified communications, mobile, WebEx, etc.)

This approach is exemplified also in initiatives such as the “collective purchase groups” that have multiplied in western Europe and north America. An escape from the crises of economy, sustainability and governance is a huge and urgent task that may last a generation. From this perspective, the three trends of the “alter-globalisation” movement could be seen as politically complementary rather than competing strategies.

A colleague of Chris, Jacobien Ritsema worked with Riny Heijdendael to introduce wikis in the organisation in November 2005, and right now Chris can hardly recall how he used to organize his work before there were wikis in his life… Milieukontakt uses wikis for internal communication, but also started to use it with partners in Central and Eastern Europe. The wiki incorporated an integrated chat, where basic discussions took place on how the guidelines should be. I interviewed Chris van de Sanden (in the picture) by Skype about Milieukontakt ’s use of wikis and how the use of wikis support their work.

The challenge is to get some connection and integration - because the vertical organisations will have membership fees and closed spaces, while the horizontal ones will be more open. I’ve come away from the Powering a New Future conference in Lisbon with three interlocking reflections on developing the concept and practice of social reporting - and a new conclusion about what it means to be a social reporter.

Specially in Europe…
social software is to succeed within the corporate world, it’s got to stop putting together plenty of copycats all over the place from social interactions that do very very similar things and which hardly any of them are eventually integrated into business processes. It’s that integration that will help businesses adopt social software successfully, because it will not mean another set of tools and processes to do the very same thing on top of what we already have!
