d rather pick my battles (Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, for example) and fight them well rather than have my social finger in too many pies (all the above plus MySpace, Bebo, YouTube, LinkedIn, Hi5, Friendster, Orkut etc.) There are different ways to engage online, the most popular being
- Community-building: Protect The Human , Metrotwin , or Dell Communities are examples.
- Crowdsourcing: MyStarbucksIdea and Dell Ideastorm are examples.
- co-creation: Lego Factory , and open APIs are examples. I’ve been thinking of how to measure engagement in the digital space for a while now, so I wanted to aggregate my thoughts and put them in one place.

Southwest Airlines At Southwest Airlines , the social media team includes a chief Twitter officer who tracks Twitter comments and monitors a Facebook group, an online representative who fact checks and interacts with bloggers, and another who takes charge of the company's presence on sites such as YouTube, Flickr, and LinkedIn. 16 real job descriptions I put out requests on Twitter, blog and email to get submissions, as well as scoured the public job listings and I’ve reviewed 16 job descriptions from companies ranging from LinkedIn , Buzz about wireless (Sprint) , Vancity , Communispace , Imagination Corp , Microsoft , Flock VMware , GamesforChange , Disney , ACDsee , Dogster , SimplyHired , Yahoo , and many others. Now, couple that with my most recent post where I drew attention to the fact that social media sites like twitter affords a great opportunity to connect with folks working at these companies (Read how Dell, LinkedIn and Comcast encountered users on social media sites ), and we may be onto something. Community Managers and their Twitter id’s Sean used LinkedIn (yay!) Marketing Nirvana Marketing. Technology.

Not sorted in any particular order: BlogTronix I met Vassil, the CEO, I think it has a chance of giving Sharepoint a run for it’s money given it’s Intranet type features Sharepoint Microsoft’s collaboration suite is getting social networking tools for it’s 2007 version, I’m waiting for Microsoft to call me to do a demo. Five Across SF company just acquired by Cisco Community Server I was looking at this while at a previous role, this is what the famous Channel 9 was built on, as well as Dell 1to1 and Xbox PeopleAggregator I’m having
