will be speaking at two different time slots around the topic of Social Enterprise (One of my favourite topics as of late ) and the really cool thing is that in both cases I will be sharing the stage with a couple of very talented fellow IBM colleagues: Rafael Gallegos (Lotus Software Sales Manager SPGI) and Ed Brill (Director, Product Management IBM Lotus).
and a couple of use cases / success stories of how IBM customers have been making use of Lotus Collaboration technologies all along.
Yes, indeed, it is that time of the year where very soon I will be on the road again for my second and third business trips of the year and already working towards finalising the last few details, before I embark on the not-to-be-missed and always interesting Lotusphere Comes To You events.

All coming from the same source, my fellow IBM colleague Jean Francois Chenier , who over the last few weeks has put together a series of video clips under the heading " The Man Who Should Have Used Lotus Connections ", demonstrating, very effectively, why email does not cut it any more in our current collaboration landscape.

A few days back you would remember how I put together a blog post on the topic of " The Man Who Should Have Used Lotus Connections – On the Misuse of Email " where I mentioned a wonderful video clip that one of my fellow IBM colleagues put together detailing the misuse of sending files through email and how so much more efficient, and effective, completing that very same task would have been by using a file sharing Web site, like Connections Files , right? Yesterday, at work, was one of those days where there were not enough hours in the day that would allow you to go through everything you had planned in the morning to achieve during the course of the day. Being able to tap into a community of several hundred facilitators (Of their own communities, of course) to share experiences, lessons learned, knowhow, community building techniques, and so forth, is a privilege that very few people can get exposed to in a lifetime. Far too hectic, for sure. But this time around in a good sense.

If you are using SharePoint but are considering Lotus Connections for blogs, communities, social networking, etc., With notable improvements anticipated regarding profiles, blogs, wikis, etc - organizations that are already committed to SharePoint are going to view Lotus Connections skeptically (exception: organizations that also have a strategic WebSphere commitment that is greater than their commitment to SharePoint and those making a strategic commitment to the Lotus stack in general).

If yesterday I talked about the latest adventures of Molly exploring social software within the enterprise with IBM’s own Lotus Connections , today I thought I would go and check out what " The Man Who Should Have Used Lotus Connections " has been up to lately. 1 This thinking was originally tested in WorldJam, IBMs first large-scale collaboration, held in May 2001, when over 50,000 employees (or 16 percent of the IBM employee population) discussed critical issues with IBM leaders over the course of a three-day online collaboration event. Much of the increase was due to opening up participation to many more employees. Figure 1 The shift to collaborative innovation has been gradual over the course of the last 10 years as the IBM business model has evolved beyond that of the e-Business era and IBM has become a services company.
