This suggests I should look into consulting! Oh wait--I already am a consultant. A smart person pointed out to me recently what I think is one of the core truths of good consulting: That a consultant is not the same thing as an enthusiast. It's one thing to recognize the difference between a consultant and an enthusiast, and it's another to say what it is exactly about a consultant that's different. I hesitate to write an article about choosing a social media consultant because of concerns about bias and my obvious conflict of interests.
After writing Social Media Carpetbaggers and Snake Oil Salesmen , readers remarked that they had heard enough about the kinds of social media consultants to avoid and were ready to learn how to choose a good social media consultant.
The ten guidelines I present below are best Oh by the way, when I say “he”, I mean “he, she or they.” 8221; Biased I may be, but that biased, I’m not.

OK, it’s been a bit of a video tinkering period, partly stimulated by the launch of some new public workshops on knowledge audits, taxonomy development and this month, building a KM strategy. So here’s an introduction to some of our most important lessons learned over the years in how to approach a KM strategy exercise with some chance of it moving off the page of the consultant’s report and into some form of reality. In shorthand, our goals are 1) to sell more consulting services and products; 2) strengthen our ties with existing clients; 3) learn about social media to support our consulting; and 4) increase our general name awareness.
