In my view, the Event (and its offspring, the Zizekian Act) is a misunderstanding of how social change actually happens. In Badiou’s theory, social change happens through a sudden rupture in which the unspeakable is suddenly spoken. But this is not in fact how social change happens. An introduction by Andy Robinson:
(for for background on Badiou, see his book on Metapolitics here )

And since the river connects the various communities, and Pochamama is Pochamama for all, Pochamama also represents also the condition for the preservation of all communities. Thus, this third conflictual element is the most difficult to deal with and recognise in a politically effective way, because in the course of the reproduction of daily life as “homo economicus”, our true “dependence to Pochamama” is structured in such a way that we see only our dependence on money and, therefore, on the social mechanisms that reproduce and accumulate money. Massimo de Angelis report on the Yasuni’s struggle against petroleum extraction in the Ecuadorian Amazon region, based and inspired by their “Mother Earth” related deity Pochamama, clearly discusses the same links we discuss in our section on neotraditional economics, and why these linkages between pre-industrial and post-industrial thinking and practices are important, see here for details.

Some time back, I wrote a very frustrated post on how experts from the field of psychology make sweeping generalizations of what it means to use online services like twitter, facebook and other social networking sites.
John Cacioppo’s presentation “Connected Minds: Loneliness, Social Brains and the Need for Community” , hosted by the RSA .
“An As someone who once pursued an academic career, I found it shocking to see how careless these claims where – random ‘opinions’ completely unsupported by any evidence, but yesterday, my faith in the academic field was restored when “28″ (our nickname for Anjali) and I went to see Prof.

Now that we are a couple of months into the “signal sharing” of the Communities and Networks Connection , I wanted to share the top posts people have clicked into on the site (courtesy of the magic of Tony Karrer ). The following are the top posts in March from featured sources based on social signals, with a few annotations from posts that I found useful. I find that sometimes I am paying attention to the site, and other times it is off my radar. But when I look at the top hit list below, I recognize many of the posts as ones I have read, so for me, personally, there
