Last month, Apple launched a patent-infringement suit against HTC, the Taiwanese company whose phones run Google’s Android operating system. So let's be clear - all media companies are struggling as both the basic models they operate under (online and offline) are challenged, and as the economy means they no longer have the cushion of good times.

Taking the sources’ input together, we’d estimate the company’s expected 2009 revenue this way:
$125 Nick Roshon asks why Facebook revenue is so low compared to MySpace. Social media monetization is a funny thing – most people don’t understand that where there are people, there is money. It is highly improbable that the day will come when millions of people together will not mean money.

When we talk about revenue streams and monetization strategies for social networks and online communities, people often wonder out loud if there is money in giving away stuff for free. Craigslist, the “free classifieds” site that offers community advertising in 570 markets worldwide but charges only for a tiny percentage of its ads, will generate $100 million in revenue in 2009, the AIM Group / Classified Intelligence estimated today.

Companies that open their business databases and stream that data out, can have an army of hundreds of thousands (mostly) unpaid developers creating Facebook apps, iPhone apps and blog widgets to help sell their products and services.
