This week: Facebook's Daily Mail showdown; Chatroulette's tables turned; and OK Go, er... The horrific case of Peter Chapman, who used a fake Facebook profile to lure 17-year-old Ashleigh Hall to her death, drew to a close this week. The conclusion of the case brought new calls for Facebook to adopt a ‘panic button’, which connects worried children directly to Ceop — the UK's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Welcome to eModeration's round-up of all that is intriguing, alarming or odd in the world of social media, compiled by Kate Williams. For more social

This week: Facebook No to IPO; Twitter's brand ambivalence; and Simon Cowell's antisocial behaviour. ON FACEBOOK ... ON TWITTER ... ON YOUTUBE ... ON MOBILE ... BRANDS GET SOCIAL ... VIRTUAL AND GAMES ... THINKING ... ON FACEBOOK ... The IPO question must be one that makes Mark Zuckerberg cry - just a little, and on the inside - every time he’s asked it. Intriguingly, however, the WSJ punted some rough insider estimates of what Facebook might be worth when, as that organ anticipates, the company goes public in 2011. Callan Green has just published a great post on Mashable about brands who are really getting it right in Facebook Fan Pages. To make the most of Facebook Fan pages (or Bebo, any other social network), you need to actively engage with your fans. Phillips, herself a mother of ‘millennials’ – roughly defined as those who were pre-teen at the turn of the century - quotes her own research into how young adults view brands who attempt to ‘befriend’ Sure, she says, “anyone can build a fan page in under 10 minutes, and some big brands may even attract fans without any real effort.

After what feels like an inordinately long labour (mostly because Facebook kept on changing), we’re proud to give birth to our latest white paper: ‘Moderation in Social Networks’ - free to download from our website. MySpace and Bebo are falling behind in the world of social networking. MySpace was purchased by Rupert Murdoch in July 2005 for $580,000,000 and Bebo, big social networking site in the UK, bought by AOL in March 2008 for $850,000,000. The same is true for Bebo.
Charles Arthur and Jemima Kiss recently examined their decline and their rivals' rise in the Guardian. Now MySpace is decline in terms of time spent on the site per user and number of page views.

number of these terms were popularized by Mark Zuckerberg which is a testament to the way Facebook has cornered the thought leadership in this space. Social Graph: If one were to render the various ways different people in a particular community were connected into a data structure, it would be a graph . Where Facebook has hit the jack pot is that they have built a platform where applications that are compelling once they have a critical mass of users can feed off of Facebook ’s social graph instead of trying to build a user base from scratch.
