Should Facebook become a global policeman or are they just Australia Post?
Facebook as Australia Post
Think of Australia Post deliving a poison pen lettter. And there’s no point yelling that Facebook is “public” and Australia Post is “private”. What happens when online communities create “hate sites” particularly on testimonial sites of those who have passed on? Does saying “I wanna kill him” mean anything online?

Four days in Australia for a variety of engagements are now done ... There were numerous prolific Twitterers in attendance.
- I purchased a Vodafone Australia mobile broadband stick for use here, and it worked great ... and I'm at Melbourne International Airport awaiting my flight back to New Zealand.
- On Monday night, I spoke about User Adoption Strategies for Collaboration Tools at Melbourne KMLF .

Australia too has a massive increase in seniors in Facebook and social networks generally in the last year or two. Social network strategist Laurel Papworth said Australia’s take-up rate was generally about 2 to 3 per cent higher than the US for computer use.

Number of Australian Twitter users for June 2009 was 800,000, according to ComScore.
Facebook in particular demonstrated significant growth; Twitter benefited from sudden mainstream popularity in 2009. Windows Live Profile chalked up close to two million visitors, but it was Twitter that grew the most, rising to 800,000 visitors in June — up from 13,000 last year. Found this over at MarketingCharts :
Over 70% of Australian internet users visited a social networking site in June, a 29% rise from the same time last year, reports comScore.

Toyota Australia have given 5 agencies – well 6 but 2 are working together:
To put in context Toyota Yaris $15,000 budgets to come up with a social media campaign, Peter Webster National Marketing Manager for Toyota in Australia in April 2009 had $80-85 spending power . One Green Bean has a werewolf in a Yaris – you can register on Facebook or Twitter and use GPS to flag him down and get a lift to a Halloween party
Toyota have chosen 5 or 6 agencies and have asked them to spend $15,000 each on a “social media marketing campaign”. Think “stunt”

(nearly 100) Here’s a list of journalists from Australian (mostly mainstream, some New Zealanders) media who have embraced, indeed are head over heels, in love with Twitter. Trevor Cook put a dozen Australian Journalists on Twitter together. Here is a little formula I just cooked up called the Tweet-GQ (Tweet Gary Quotient) that works out a Twitter rating. Let’s sit here and watch them. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes . Who watches the watchers themselves? By the way, the first social networking book I ever read was The Republic by Plato, mashing’up and

So when people put together lists of “ interesting twitterers ” and less interesting ones I rushed off to find a celebrity list. Famous Twits, the number of followers, link to twitter profile
1. So, who are Australia’s Celebrity Twitterers?
Mark Pesce, on a train with much loved Macintosh
… everything I ever learnt about blogging, I learnt from Womens Weakly and No Idea. Here from The Times (I’ve simplified it, go look at their page for more details):

If you hunt through this blog, you’ll notice that I’ve been tracking Facebook users in Australia since May 2007 (around 200,000 members I think) to today and 1/3 of Australian population.
Australia: Number of Australians on Facebook 2010 is a post from: Laurel Papworth- Social Network Strategy
Technorati Tags: Australia , Australians , Facebook Well, the number of Australians on Facebook has shot through the roof. After sitting on 6 million for a while, we have 7,900,000 monthly active users, 6,900,000 over 18 years old.

Who are Australia’s top marketing and media bloggers ? For Lee Hopkins , who asked today on Twitter about getting access to an updated Top Marketing and Media bloggers list for Australia. As you can see, their ranking in Australia is left column, then the blog name, their ranking in August last year, their ranking today, and for fun, their Twitter ID if I have it handy.
Not decided by the local BlogMafia -heh - but internationally recognised and independently evaluated?
This is the list.
