She came of age with the women’s movement, worked with trade unionists and socialists, founded the influential independent left magazine, Red Pepper, and has written a number of acclaimed books that probe the deep dynamics of democratic change.
The result was Red Pepper, a feisty Hillary Wainwright is one of the finest people I have met over the last few years, so I’m happy to share this profile, written by my friend David Bollier :

Make magazine dedicates its 21st issue to the state of advancement of the various aspects of desktop manufacturing (3D printing and scanning, personal fabrication, etc..). Spend a few hours reading through the complete archives of the RepRap blog (blog.reprap.org) from 2005 to present. Archiving of high-resolution original images
Wired offers the magazine for free online yet 800,000 pay $1 a month for subscriptions. And 9,000 buy the magazine at newsagencies. We look at Freemium revenue in social networks and online communities including asking that: if freemium is the business model of giving it all (or most) of the services away for free , how can you then charge for it? And what is free stuff anyway – marketing?
