think it would be very helpful if the Socialtext folks could explicitly answer how Signals supports enterprise requirements for security, access controls, archive/logging (for audit, compliance, and records management), directory integration, and policy management overall (individuals, groups/roles). Socialtext released new mobile device capabilities today , with device-optimized usage from a BlackBerry, iPhone, or Android smartphone. Socialtext released "Miki", for mobile device access to a wiki workspace some three ago; this is an update and substantial revision to its capabilities.

Yammer, despite multiple requests, did not respond to my earlier post on the need for tools in this category to support policy, integration, security and other capabilities expected by enterprise decision-makers.

Some good points in this post from Adina Levin (Socialtext). If you want to consider micro-blogging as a messaging system then I'm fine with that - but Twitter-like applications are going to be defined as a type of communication system (which will trigger all sorts of other issues related to logging, audit, compliance, e-discovery, etc).

Most IM systems and applications also support some form of group chat. People not involved in the instant messaging or group chat session cannot view the content of those communications through the IM client applications. APIs allow numerous applications to extend Twitter in a variety of ways. Ross Mayfield put forth a pretty interesting question on Twitter (see below). It's a great question - my thoughts below:
