The Best from the Communities and Networks Connection Community

I have been a fan of NewsGator for some time as they were my first RSS reader in early 2004 (see Finally, I’m Scanning the Web through NewsGator) so I want to share my interview from the AppGap. then spoke with Greg Reinacker, their founder, in June 04 about their early enterprise use (see NewsGator’s Movement from Aggregator Application to Enterprise Platform ) and his blog was included as a case in my business blog book. I So I was very pleased to see that they have greatly expanded their offering beyond RSS to a comprehensive suite of social networking tools.
NewsGator hosted a webinar this morning on strategy and governance for social computing initiatives. Greg Reinacker ( @gregr ) from NewsGator and Stacy Wilson ( @stacylwilson ) from Eloquor Consulting . Greg interjected and gave a demo of NewsGator Social Sites.] Given that I've just published a book on strategy and governance for SharePoint , I attended. Here are my notes.

NewsGator) to augment what SharePoint has in terms of E2.0 I'm not convinced Sun can make it successful in the market but as an architectural model for organizations that want to socially-enabled existing web properties and applications and are interested in OpenSocial - it's well-worth a look. Rather than list off a "top ten" list of predictions for 2009, I thought I would briefly layout some topics and areas that business and IT decision-makers should pay attention to when formulating Enterprise 2.0 plans:
When people have to subscribe to internal / Enterprise RSS, IT staff will normally chose an existing application (Outlook) to read RSS. strongly agree that those thinking about application design, information architecture, search, collaboration, portals, and so on need to think about feed syndication as another communication channel and user experience around feeds as the build and deploy systems. You cannot assume that people will A lot of great comments over at the main article: R.I.P Enterprise RSS .

From a tooling perspective, across the board, IT groups seem much more comfortable with social tools and social applications. Mostly I chalk this up to most enterprise intranets having poor native web content and the lack of bookmarklets in productivity tools which would allow people to tag/bookmark content in applications other than a browser. NewsGator is the only viable enterprise option (for a feed syndication platform) in most cases. In my last post, Year-End Thoughts On Enterprise 2.0 & amp; Social Software , I wanted to provide a background context on some of the areas
