Moreover, when majority media mention P2P networks, they usually speak exclusively about these illegal practices, which implies their continual criminalization.
There is a large group of initiatives whose critical foundation can be exemplified in another project by UBERMORGEN.COM, Paolo Cirio and Alessandro Ludovico: Amazon Noir (2006). Social media is very much existent in China, but it’s like it’s on steroids: 298 million internet users, 105 million bloggers, 91 million members on their Bulletin Board Systems or BBS (discussion forums around different topics), and 58 million people on social networks. Much as I like Amazon, that’s not where I go to decide what to buy: but could Amazon or something like it channel prospective buyers in such vast numbers successfully?
I was at a talk on how internet word of mouth (iWOM) works in China a couple of weeks ago. There were a few noteworthy

An overview of social media monetization revenues .
API Widget Economy: Social Media Business Ep.003 from Laurel Papworth on Vimeo .
Embeddable media is critical for spreadability and distribution – YouTube is a clear example of content that is watched 30% or more of the time “off site”… through an embed on Facebook, blogs and so on.
Episode 3 focusses on monetizing APIs and looking at revenue streams from widgets. Companies that open their business databases and stream that data out, can have an army of hundreds of thousands (mostly) unpaid

design-led approach to solving a business problem is very different to the way most “social media” projects work in real life. The current state of “social media” for many businesses looks more like an episode of MacGyver than Apple’s design process. Armano proposes that the term “social media” is itself part of the problem.

Like buying on Facebook from eBay or Amazon rather than logging into those sites themselves. note: all the social media revenue streams are here on my social media monetization post)
Anyway, the last slide was a set up for Jay to talk about blog monetization and Lee Hopkins social media monetization session in the afternoon. While you are reading the presentation outline below I’d like you to think about the Twitter change today. Today Twitter turned off “see replies to those I’m not following”.

good friend of mine started a new job for the new year – working in social media for a UK charity. There are a whole range of great books out there on how social media is used and the impact this is having on society (anything by Gladwell or Shirky would be a great starting point), but she was interested specifically in things that help managing and growing communities online.

Yesterday, Twitterers noted that Darren Rowse , otherwise known as Australia’s most popular media and marketing blogger Problogger, had had his logo ripped off by BeamDotMy
When I checked on Buzz, there were hundreds of comments – followers had even taken beamdotmy logo, flipped it in photoshop and were able to prove without a shadow of a doubt that it was ripped from Problogger.
When she complained about it, they ignored her and continued to sell on Amazon and elsewhere. I get asked all the time “if you blog, tweet, slideshare, podcast, can’t someone just TAKE your intellectual property?”
