Perhaps you hover over the journalist’s name on The Sydney Morning Herald or New York Times and get that popup – though I’ve seen similar with not only Twitter but LinkedIn, Facebook, all of em in the overlay.

It’s all about perspective: Facebook has only 200 million users WORLDWIDE.
Much as I like Amazon, that’s not where I go to decide what to buy: but could Amazon or something like it channel prospective buyers in such vast numbers successfully?
There is so much talk about Facebook, Twitter and the like that sometimes we forget there are much more wide-reaching platforms - in a different part of the world. Companies that open their business databases and stream that data out, can have an army of hundreds of thousands (mostly) unpaid developers creating Facebook apps, iPhone apps and blog widgets to help sell their products and services. Embeddable media is critical for spreadability and distribution – YouTube is a clear example of content that is watched 30% or more of the time “off site”… through an embed on Facebook, blogs and so on.

Rage Against the Machine on Facebook
They got it thanks to an extraordinary underground Facebook campaign, beating X-Factor winner Joe McElderry.
Whatever your opinions of Rage Against the Machine, Simon Cowell, Facebook or Joe Mcelderry, this has been a great show of social media might.
But this year Jon Morter ( @Jon_Magic ), a HiFi Technician from Essex, Rage Against the Machine (RATM) have just had their first UK Number 1. The successful single, Killing in the Name , was released over 15 years ago.

Facebook, for a long time, didn’t remove it completely, they reset the default to private . Well, it put in your newsfeed when you bought something at eBay or Amazon or whatever. Superb if you did a great deal on a Louis Vuitton classic handbag on eBay, less good if you are buying “Herpes and You” on Amazon or porn at Blockbuster Video. I always thought Beacon would work, it was just a bit too soon for some of the older bloggers, who kicked up a stink that Beacon couldn’t be turned off and the default option was “on”. Anyway, what
