So the media is not just the message (as per McLuhan ) but it is the message and the messengers. Technology Social software becomes, therefore, the technology side of the definition of social media, and we use it when we refer specifically to software that enables and supports personal interaction. Andrew McAfee first used the phrase emergent social software platforms in his May 2006 definition of Enterprise 2.0. I recently tweeted an observation of David Weinberger' s on how our language has shifted: Over the past decade, we’ve gone from talking about social circles to social networks.

Teamspeak seems to work better at low bandwidth than Skype, although the quality of the sound can be reduced. The next interview took place at July 3, 2006 with Dorine Ruter from ETC. Meeting at a distance “Over a year ago the programme committee of RUAF (Resource Centres for Urban Agriculture and Food Security - www.ruaf.org) came to me with the question whether I knew a tool that would make it possible to conduct a meeting over the internet. Besides that, chatty conversations can become chaotic really fast if everybody replies to the same message. The tool: Teamspeak Teamspeak is a software application for online meetings.

People get the feeling that sending a message to a D-group or placing a thought on a Wiki is a form of official publishing. What do the different stories tell us? We tried to cover the field of e-collaboration among Dutch NGOs as broadly as possible, to give an impression of the many different ways Dutch NGOs use e-collaboration in their work. The interviews are held with one person from an organisation, who was in

The system is e-mail based, but has an online platform as well, where message, resources, members and a calendar are accessible. In 2006, 12.000 messages pass through Dgroups every month, and a 1000 files or links to files are shared. In total, since the beginning of Dgroups, 288.000 messages have passed and 27.000 resources. Last week we had several discussions on how to get lively discussions going on online fora. It made me think again about the success of Dgroups "the starting point for fostering groups and communities in international development " and how

For example, to search for "peanuts" send an email to www@web2mail.com with the subject "search peanuts" in your email message. Now that I have a broadband connection, I almost forget how I used the web in Takoradi (with an unreliable dial-up connection). Basically doing as much as possible offline and hoping you'd not have large attachments (or when there were large attachments, hoping the connection would not be broken).

When presenting something, think about ‘what’s in it for me’ while packaging your advocacy messag As I said in an earlier blogpost , Mr. Boateng who is a board member of GAPVOD, the NGO umbrella organisation of Ghana, gave an excellent and inspiring talk about networks in Ghana. Though not all networks in Ghana have learning at their core, as communities of practice have, I think it is interesting to explore where these dynamics stimulate or inhibit communities

And one thing which resonated with my experiences: HR, country managers and IT must convey consistent messages to employees. but from my experience, it is sometimes hard for them to see that they send contradictory messages, and even what they say and do may be contradictory). There is an interview with Martin Dugage available in the May issue of IK magazine , I found it through his blog . It is one of the few descriptions of French experiences I've come across and very practical.

Her -younger- brother was surprised that she was sending sms-messages (she had come back from Indonesia where everyone was sending sms' all the time). For instance I assumed that people in the Netherlands are comfortable with e-mail; for a CoP using a mailing list I learned that at the one end a person was subscribed to 100 mailing lists, on the other hand a person felt overwhelmed by the number of messages which wasn't more than 5 per wee We had a friend over for dinner and discussed changing use of technologies: we had made the appointment by exchanging 2-3 mails whereas 1 year ago, we would use a phone call to make appointments.
