It was published in the Knowledgeboard on the 24th of September 2004 , and it started a very nice conversation (there, and in the old KB forums). It recent development in an online community has shone the spotlight again on a matter that I’ve repeatedly found to be very important for CoPs in particular and for knowledge building and sharing in general. In other words, how beneficial is the impact of human personal relationships, That was the title. The subtitle was “The challenge of sustainable socialisation”.

At a first glance this might appear as a classic example of a company appropriating and commodifying knowledge and ideas that are freely supplied by consumers, realizing their value as a number of new products that are subsequently sold back to the contributors. The counter-gift requested by consumers in relation to the brand mainly consisted in a responsible management of their ideas and affective investments. A contribution by Adam Arvidsson :
“The following is an attempt to use an empirical study of an actual instane of value co-creation. In essence: value depends on

If this used to be the privilege of a handful of left-leaning economists like André Gunder Frank (2005) or Robert Brenner (2004), economists, politicians and business leaders who used to be more than happy with the existing order of things have now joined the ranks. Consequently a lot of the wealth actually produced by the economy cannot be adequately valued and, by implication, managed within existing structures of accounting, control and measurement. The original article, Five ideas on value and the crisis , was a contribution by Adam Arvidsson to the Reimagining Society Project hosted by ZCommunications.

January 2004, I experienced what some folks would know as a serious wake up call in my life. decided to approach both my local resource management team, as well as my, at the time, project manager and ask them whether they would allow me to work remotely from another country, in this case, Spain, my home country.
And this is where social computing kicks in, because right then I realised that if I wanted to make it work in my new situation I needed to be out there : We all know that plenty of people nowadays are trying to figure out what is the main business value and various benefits of using social computing within the enterprise.

It spread virally until the entire organization uses it instead of traditional document management system. Dion Hinchcliffe is leading an opening workshop on Implementing Enterprise 2.0. I

And in this case in 3 out of 5 weeks I have been able to manage it! For instance, who would have thought, back in 2004 or thereabouts, that a couple of years later we would be seeing plenty of Enterprise Social Software offerings from most major vendors as well as some other niche Enterprise 2.0 Who would have thought in 2004 how most of the corporate world is seriously being impacted by the knowledge workers’ adoption of social software, not just outside, but also inside of the firewall, in 2009? I guess it’s about time that I get back on track with things and share with everyone out there the weekly progress reports I have been collecting since last time I blogged about this subject , where I presented, amongst several other things, what my new challenge would be like for 2009 and an initial report status on how things were going on my progress living A World Without Email .

Dave is a world leader in knowledge management and narrative techniques and is an impressive speaker and storyteller.
Then I leave IBM to set up Anecdote in 2004.
To paraphrase Annette Simmons, "People wont listen to you until they know who you are and what you want." And one of the best ways to introduce yourself and answer these two questions is to tell a story that reveals something about your character and experience.

This exactly what we did in 2004 when we swapped Word doc attached to emails for a blog to support an executive task force at a large hospital. This stealth approach was especially important in 2004 when blogs were seen as the domain of teenagers and geeks. He also said it is “important to budget something for community management — not to control the conversation, but rather to guide it. Jakob Nielsen is a guru on intranets. In most organizations there is this horrible disconnect between the hoopla about “working collaboratively” with “social networking tools” and the management practices, reporting relationships and performance expectations. Organizations can talk the talk about “collaboration”, but to effectively implement collaborative tools and work behaviours they have to walk the walk of new organization structures, management practices and employment expectations and compensation. The hierarchical structure has been based on the belief that knowledge is arranged vertically.
