Nuvolari (2001) establishes that the efficiency of steam engines improved substantially in Cornwall through this period, probably through many minor or unattributed innovations and discoveries by the steam engine engineers. It is part of a larger picture in which the new technology turns into new products and the producers, consumers, and markets are jointly developed.” I found this April 2003 paper, which details historical examples of shared design in the industrial era:

Unfortunately, the concept of “the commons” is often understood not as something that belongs to everyone but rather as something that belongs to no one and therefore is worthless, given that it lies outside the systems of appropriation and exchange that comprise market systems.
In opposition to this notion, various attempts at marketing net.art works which have been carried out by galleries and museums have shown a transfer of the context of the art-institution and the logic of its market to the Internet setting. This is the text from a presentation at Medialab Prado in Madrid, by Juan Martín Prada, for the Inclusiva-net meeting in July 2009.

am one of those folks who thinks along those lines of the latter commentary, having been exposed to corporate social software tools behind the firewall as early as 2001. Well, to answer those and a few other questions, here is where I would encourage you all to watch this YouTube video with IBM ’s Jon Iwata ( Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications) where he spends just about three minutes (Pretty much following a similar format to the video interviews I mentioned in the past from Cisco’s John Chambers ) explaining all about what’s like letting control go to

From 1997 to 2001, a number of community tools began supporting various combinations of profiles and publicly articulated Friends. The Korean virtual worlds site Cyworld was started in 1999 and added SNS features in 2001, independent of these other sites (see Kim & Yun, this issue). The next wave of SNSs began when Ryze.com was launched in 2001 to help people leverage their business networks. JCMC Home Submit Issues Author Index Editors About JCMC boyd, d. m., &

Earlier this year, we started to hear significant rumblings from wall street that things were not ok, particularly with the credit markets.
